On April 11, Yang Yuanqing, chairman of Lenovo Group, and his party came to Chongqing to discuss how to deepen cooperation in accelerating terminal product innovation, jointly building a computing power industry chain, participating in the construction of digital Chongqing, and enabling intelligent networked new energy vehicles.

In fact, Lenovo Group has long been associated with Chongqing. In December 2019, Lenovo Group reached an in-depth cooperation with Chongqing, landing a 5G cloud network convergence business headquarters base and intelligent terminal manufacturing project in Liangjiang New Area.

"Core Screen End Nuclear Network" is the development strategy of the whole industrial chain of Chongqing's electronic information industry. "End-side cloud net intelligence" is Lenovo Group's new IT technology architecture layout; The high degree of fit between the two has enabled Lenovo Group to deepen its efforts in Chongqing, not only producing intelligent terminals in Chongqing, but also continuously pushing 5G technology to land in various fields in our city.

Build the first mountain city car networking demonstration project in the west

The driver does not control the steering wheel, the bus autonomously chooses the lane, avoids obstacles and pedestrians, and then takes the passengers to the destination. This is a car networking project built by Chongqing Liangjiang Collaborative Innovation Zone, and it is also the first mountain city car networking demonstration project in western China. Behind it is the technical support of Lenovo Group's intelligent network connection AI computing power car networking solution.

According to the relevant person in charge of Liangjiang New Area, Chongqing's road conditions are complex and the climate is changeable. The municipal Party committee and the municipal government have been accelerating the construction of intelligent transportation system and building a vehicle networking system. As the fourth national vehicle networking pilot area in China, Chongqing (Liangjiang New Area) should be actively explored.

To this end, the Liangjiang Collaborative Innovation Zone, in accordance with the concept of zoning and grading construction, has cooperated with Lenovo Group, Sidi, China Telecom and other enterprises to intelligently upgrade roads with a total mileage of about 55 kilometers, realizing 32 types of vehicle networking scenarios such as active public transportation priority and cross-collision warning, as well as operating 12 types of vehicles such as self-driving public transportation and intelligent network-connected microcirculation minibuses.

Among them, Lenovo Group deployed 7 sets of regional edge computing units on the roadside, based on 5G intelligent computing technology, the roadside perception information back to the regional edge computing, to achieve cross-intersection target fusion, computing power scheduling, to support the above-mentioned vehicle networking application scenarios.

In addition to the self-driving feeder bus, Lenovo Group also cooperates with industry partners to make the park logistics vehicle realize unmanned transportation.

In the Guoyuan Port Comprehensive Bonded Zone, a new energy truck stopped steadily in front of the traffic lights in the park. However, there is no driver on this truck, only a safety officer. After the signal turned green, the truck started automatically again and then drove to its destination.

This is the first commercial L4 + I4 class vehicle-road collaborative automatic driving intelligent logistics distribution system in China built by Lenovo Group in conjunction with Feilida Co., Ltd., China Telecom, Chongqing University of Posts and Telecommunications, Qingling Automobile and other enterprises. Through 5G + intelligent computing technology, the application scenario of end-to-end automatic driving transportation of logistics vehicles from warehouse to manufacturing plant is realized. This will directly reduce the cost of supply chain and manufacturing enterprises by 20%.

Lenovo Group also launched a cloud network integration project in Chongqing and established Lenovo Future Communication Technology (Chongqing) Co., Ltd. At present, all the outer suburbs and counties in Chongqing are Lenovo's 5G skin base stations to complete the most remote room coverage.

Consolidating the position of Chongqing as the world's largest laptop manufacturing base

At the opening ceremony of the 2021 Smart Expo, Yang Yuanqing delivered a video speech, proposing to invest 2 billion yuan with his partners to build an intelligent terminal production base in Chongqing to help diversify and upgrade Chongqing's manufacturing industry.

After the Smart Expo, Lenovo Group quickly discussed relevant cooperation with Chongqing. The two sides quickly reached a consensus to build a smart terminal manufacturing base in Liangjiang New District, build 6 smart SMT production lines and 20 FATP production lines, including laptops, desktops, and servers, to carry out smart terminal product production, sales, research and development, and maintenance, Testing and other businesses.

In December of the same year, Lenovo Group's intelligent terminal manufacturing project was officially put into production in Liangjiang New District, with 2.5 million units agreed to be shipped in the first contract year.

In the first contract year, Lenovo Group's shipments greatly exceeded the contracted quantity-in 2022, Lenovo Group shipped more than 4 million smart terminals in Chongqing, with an output value of more than 14 billion yuan.

In 2023, the global laptop market fell into a trough, with orders and production declining significantly. As the world's largest laptop manufacturing base, Chongqing has also been impacted accordingly, and the manufacturing volume of smart terminals of many brands has declined.

Against this background, Lenovo Group "tied up" Chongqing's laptop industry: shipments of smart terminals rose against the trend, producing more than 5 million units last year, exceeding the contract target again.

According to the relevant person in charge of Lenovo Group, although the downward pressure on the entire laptop industry was very high last year, since Lenovo Group has a contract goal with Chongqing, it must do its best to complete it. Therefore, the entire group thought of many ways to ensure the shipment of smart terminals for the Chongqing project, and also delivered a result that satisfied both parties.

"Chongqing is one of Lenovo's eight bases in China." The relevant person in charge of Lenovo Group said that Lenovo Group is very optimistic about the development prospects of Chongqing and has also strengthened its determination to develop in Chongqing in the future.

The person in charge said that Chongqing is located at the junction of the "Belt and Road" and the Yangtze River Economic Belt. It is building a two-city economic circle in the Chengdu-Chongqing region. It is a new highland on the map of the technology industry. It not only has an industrial foundation, but also has technology accumulation and talent. Reserve is an important destination for global capital investment inland.

At the same time, Chongqing has accelerated the development of the whole industrial chain of "core screen end nuclear network", which also provides advanced experimental conditions and superior development environment for Lenovo Group's future layout, especially in innovative businesses such as intelligent manufacturing and 5G cloud network integration.
