On October 14, Piya Ekanayake, President of the University of the Northwest in Sri Lanka, paid a visit to Chongqing at the invitation of the Education Working Alliance of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization’s Multifunctional Economic and Trade Platform. He subsequently visited Chongqing Aerospace Vocational and Technical College and Chongqing Three Gorges Vocational College for inspection and exchanges, gaining first-hand insights into the two institutions’ distinctive educational approaches, program development, practical training facility construction, and international collaborative education initiatives.
At Chongqing Aerospace Vocational and Technical College, President Piya Ekanayake conducted a focused inspection of the institution’s talent-development model for aerospace-related disciplines and its achievements in industry–education integration. At Chongqing Three Gorges Vocational College, the two sides held a symposium, engaging in an in-depth exchange of views on the potential for cooperation in fields such as animal husbandry and veterinary science, as well as modern agriculture. They also discussed issues including faculty and student exchanges, joint training programs, and the establishment of “field‑based academies.”
From October 15 to 17, at the invitation of the Education Working Alliance of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization’s Multifunctional Economic and Trade Platform, President Piyal Ekanayake attended the 2026 World Conference on Vocational and Technical Education Development, themed “Global Vocational Education: Embracing Change Together, Co‑Creating Standards, and Shaping the Future.” During the conference, President Ekanayake engaged in in-depth discussions with domestic and international experts and scholars in the field of vocational education, as well as representatives from educational institutions and enterprises, focusing on global trends in vocational education, cross‑border cooperation mechanisms, and innovative approaches to talent development.
This visit and participation in the conference have built an important bridge for deepening cooperation between China and Sri Lanka in the field of vocational education. It has not only enhanced mutual understanding between the two sides on both conceptual and practical levels but also laid a solid foundation for future multi‑level, wide‑ranging exchanges and collaboration. Moving forward, the two sides will continue to strengthen pragmatic cooperation in areas such as academic exchange, talent development, and resource sharing, gradually fostering a cooperative framework characterized by complementary strengths and synergistic growth, thereby injecting fresh momentum into the enhancement of vocational education quality in both countries.
