SAINT PETERSBURG, Oct. 21 (Xinhua) — On the afternoon of October 21, Chinese Premier Li Qiang met with Russian President Vladimir Putin in Saint Petersburg.
Premier Li Qiang first conveyed President Xi Jinping’s cordial greetings and best wishes to President Vladimir Putin. Premier Li stated that, against the backdrop of a continuously complex and evolving international landscape, China and Russia have maintained close cooperation, serving as a rare stabilizing force in a world fraught with turmoil and uncertainty. Since the beginning of this year, the two heads of state have met twice, further charting the course for deepening China-Russia relations and cooperation. China stands ready to strengthen strategic communication with Russia, consolidate political mutual trust, expand all‑round, mutually beneficial cooperation, and continue to enhance the well-being of the peoples of both countries.
Li Qiang stated that China stands ready to work with Russia to better leverage their economic complementarities, sustain the current positive momentum in bilateral cooperation, and strengthen practical collaboration in areas such as energy and resources, trade and investment, and transportation, thereby achieving more tangible results and fostering the shared prosperity of both countries. Both sides should earnestly implement the “China-Russia Year of Education,” continuously deepen exchanges and cooperation in culture, tourism, sports, and youth affairs, and further enhance mutual understanding and friendship between the peoples of the two nations. In today’s world, unilateralism and hegemonism are on the rise. China is willing to strengthen communication and coordination with Russia on major issues, closely coordinate within multilateral platforms such as the Shanghai Cooperation Organization and the BRICS, unite more forces from the Global South, safeguard common interests, and uphold fairness and justice.
President Putin asked Premier Li Qiang to convey his sincere greetings to President Xi Jinping and extended his best wishes for the successful convening of the Fifth Plenary Session of the 20th Central Committee of the Communist Party of China. President Putin stated that he had met with President Xi Jinping on numerous occasions this year, reaching new, pivotal consensus on advancing the Russia–China comprehensive strategic partnership of coordination for a new era. Over the past 30 years since the establishment of the regular prime ministers’ meeting mechanism between Russia and China, both sides have earnestly implemented the outcomes of head-of-state diplomacy, deepening and solidifying bilateral cooperation. Russia–China relations are founded on the principles of equality and mutual respect, mutually beneficial cooperation, and accommodation of each other’s concerns; they remain unaffected by changes in the international landscape and are free from third-party interference. China has been, is, and will continue to be Russia’s closest and most reliable partner. Russia stands ready to work with China to deepen practical cooperation in such fields as energy, agriculture, space, civilian nuclear energy, information technology, artificial intelligence, and transportation, to jointly host the “Russia–China Year of Education,” and to expand people-to-people and cultural exchanges. Russia also supports China’s hosting of this year’s APEC Economic Leaders’ Meeting and its presidency of BRICS next year.
