BEIJING, April 23 (Xinhua) — Xi Jinping, General Secretary of the CPC Central Committee, President of the People’s Republic of China, and Chairman of the Central Military Commission, recently issued important instructions, noting that Yiwu’s small commodities have broken into major markets and grown into a large industry, thereby giving rise to the “Yiwu Development Experience,” which represents a successful practice of developing county-level economies in light of local conditions.
Xi Jinping emphasized that, in conjunction with the study and education campaign on establishing and practicing a correct view of official achievements, the “Yiwu Development Experience” should be further summarized and effectively applied. All regions should ground their efforts in their own resource endowments, respect the pioneering spirit of grassroots initiatives and the people, pursue reform and innovation, work diligently and pragmatically, and make sustained, long-term efforts to explore development paths that are tailored to their specific conditions and deliver high-quality outcomes, thereby better serving and integrating into the overall national development agenda.
During his tenure in Zhejiang, Xi Jinping conducted multiple field visits to Yiwu and summarized and promoted the “Yiwu Development Experience.” Over the years, Yiwu has continuously written a new chapter as a “small commodities, big market,” with the number of business entities in its small-commodity market now exceeding 1.26 million. The city maintains trade relations with more than 230 countries and regions, and in 2025 its foreign-trade export value ranked first among all counties (county-level cities and districts) nationwide.
