The platform has appointed Academician Wang Jianwei of the Chinese Academy of Engineering as a Lifetime Honorary Advisor to its think tank.
Recently, the inaugural meeting of the Think Tank Committee on Hepatobiliary Surgery of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization’s Multifunctional Economic and Trade Platform, along with an international conference on health cooperation and exchange in the fields of hepatobiliary and pancreatic medicine, was held in Beijing.
During the conference, the Shanghai Cooperation Organization’s Multifunctional Economic and Trade Platform appointed Academician Wang Jianwei of the Chinese Academy of Engineering and Director of the Chinese Center for Disease Control and Prevention as its Lifetime Honorary Advisor to the Think Tank. Hu Kaiqiang, Secretary-General of the Platform and Deputy Director of the Committee on Hong Kong, Macao, Taiwan, Overseas Chinese Affairs, and Foreign Affairs of the Chongqing Municipal Committee of the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference, presented Academician Wang with his appointment letter.
Wang Jianwei, male, Han ethnicity, born in December 1968, a member of the Communist Party of China, holds a doctoral degree and serves as a researcher and doctoral supervisor. He is an academician of the Medical and Health Sciences Division of the Chinese Academy of Engineering. Currently, he holds the positions of Director (President) and Deputy Secretary of the Party Committee at the Chinese Center for Disease Control and Prevention (Chinese Academy of Preventive Medicine). For many years, he has been deeply engaged in research on the pathogenic mechanisms of respiratory viral infections and the prevention and control of infectious diseases. He has been selected for numerous national talent programs, including the National Outstanding Youth Science Fund, the National Natural Science Foundation’s Innovative Research Group, the Ten-Thousand Talents Program’s Leading Talents in Scientific and Technological Innovation, and the Beijing Scholar Program. He has achieved a series of significant breakthroughs in the identification of pathogens, elucidation of disease mechanisms, and development of diagnostic and surveillance systems for emerging and sudden‑onset infectious diseases. He has published numerous high‑impact papers in top international journals such as Cell and The Lancet, with several of his findings underpinning China’s major efforts in preventing and controlling infectious diseases. As the primary contributor, he was awarded the Second Prize of the National Science and Technology Progress Award, and has also received other prestigious honors, including the National Innovation and Excellence Award and the Wu Jieping Pharmaceutical Innovation Award. In addition, he concurrently serves as Vice President of the Chinese Society of Preventive Medicine and a Member of the Executive Council of the Chinese Medical Association, among other academic posts. He is actively involved in global public health cooperation, vigorously promoting international joint prevention and control of infectious diseases, capacity building in health workforce training, and the collaborative development and sharing of appropriate technologies. Through these efforts, he has made substantial contributions to the development of China’s public health system and to international health cooperation.
