BEIJING, Sept. 30 (Xinhua) — A reception marking the 77th anniversary of the founding of the People’s Republic of China was held at the Great Hall of the People on the evening of the 30th. Xi Jinping, General Secretary of the CPC Central Committee, President of the People’s Republic of China, and Chairman of the Central Military Commission, attended the reception and delivered an important speech. He emphasized that, through long-term exploration and practice, the socialist system with Chinese characteristics has demonstrated tremendous strengths, and the modernization of China’s national governance system and governance capacity continues to advance, making the great rejuvenation of the Chinese nation an unstoppable force. As long as we remain firmly confident, stay focused on our goals, and move forward steadily, step by step, success will surely belong to the great Communist Party of China, the great Chinese people, and the great People’s Republic of China.

Li Qiang presided over the reception, which was attended by Zhao Leji, Wang Huning, Cai Qi, Ding Xuexiang, Li Xi, and Han Zheng. Approximately 800 Chinese and foreign guests gathered to celebrate the founding anniversary of the People’s Republic of China.

The banquet hall of the Great Hall of the People shone with dazzling lights, radiating a joyous and festive atmosphere. Above the rostrum hung the solemn national emblem, while the grand inscription “1949–2026” stood out strikingly against the backdrop of vibrant red flags.

At around 5:30 p.m., to the cheerful strains of the “Welcome March,” Xi Jinping and other Party and state leaders entered the banquet hall, prompting warm applause from the entire audience.

The reception began. The entire audience rose to their feet and sang the National Anthem of the People’s Republic of China, as the stirring “March of the Volunteers” resonated throughout the hall.

Xi Jinping delivered an important address. He began by extending, on behalf of the CPC Central Committee and the State Council, festive greetings to the people of all ethnic groups across the country, to the officers and soldiers of the Chinese People’s Liberation Army and the armed police forces, and to the members of the democratic parties and non‑party personages. He also conveyed sincere regards to our compatriots in the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region, the Macao Special Administrative Region, Taiwan, and overseas Chinese communities, and expressed heartfelt gratitude to the friendly countries and international friends who have long shown concern for and supported China’s development.

Xi Jinping pointed out that over the past 77 years, our Party has united and led the people in tireless endeavor, giving rise to two remarkable achievements: rapid economic development and long-term social stability. We have accomplished the first centenary goal of building a moderately prosperous society in all respects and are now forging ahead with determination toward the second centenary goal of fully building a modern socialist country. At this very moment, we feel immense pride in the world‑renowned accomplishments of New China and are filled with confidence in the bright prospects of Chinese‑style modernization.

Xi Jinping emphasized that, since the beginning of this year, the Party and the nation as a whole have pressed ahead with determination and worked tirelessly to formulate and implement the 15th Five-Year Plan, steadily advancing work across all fronts. Despite mounting pressures, China’s economy has forged ahead, moving toward higher quality and greater resilience, demonstrating strong adaptability and vitality, and achieving new progress and tangible results in the cause of the Party and the country. We must adhere to the overarching principle of seeking progress while maintaining stability, fully, accurately, and comprehensively implement the new development philosophy, accelerate the establishment of a new development paradigm, further deepen reform and opening-up, better balance development and security, promote sustained economic growth that is both innovative and of higher quality, effectively safeguard and improve people’s livelihoods, strive to accomplish the annual goals and tasks, and ensure a strong start to the 15th Five-Year Plan period.

Xi Jinping pointed out that we must unswervingly uphold the principles of “One Country, Two Systems,” “Hong Kong people administering Hong Kong,” “Macao people administering Macao,” and a high degree of autonomy; support Hong Kong and Macao in better integrating into and serving the overall national development; and ensure their long-term prosperity and stability. We must deepen cross‑strait exchanges and cooperation, resolutely combat “Taiwan independence” separatist forces, oppose external interference, promote the peaceful development of cross‑strait relations, and advance the great cause of national reunification.

Xi Jinping emphasized that we must uphold an independent and peaceful foreign policy, advance the implementation of the four major global initiatives, and work to build a community with a shared future for mankind, thereby injecting greater certainty and positive energy into a world fraught with turmoil and change.

To the sound of cheerful music, Chinese and foreign guests raised their glasses to celebrate the 77th anniversary of the founding of the People’s Republic of China, wishing China prosperity and flourishing, its people happiness and well-being, and enduring friendship between the Chinese people and the peoples of all nations.

Also in attendance at the reception were members of the CPC Central Politburo, Secretariat members, Vice Chairmen of the Central Military Commission, Vice Chairpersons of the Standing Committee of the National People’s Congress, State Councilors, Director of the National Supervisory Commission, President of the Supreme People’s Court, Procurator-General of the Supreme People’s Procuratorate, Vice Chairpersons of the National Committee of the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference, comrades who have retired from leading positions, as well as those who formerly served as members of the Central Military Commission.
