The SCO Economic and Trade Platform is joining forces with Jiangjin to stage Chongqing’s only annual international‑level motorcycle race—using the event as a platform to implement the consensus on SCO sports cooperation and to open up new avenues for Chongqing’s economic, trade, and cultural exchanges.
To thoroughly implement the series of important consensuses reached at the Council of Heads of State of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization, to carry out the work arrangements adopted at the Meeting of Sports Ministers of SCO member states, and to put into practice the key initiatives set forth in the Bishkek Declaration and the Samarkand Declaration—such as deepening sports exchanges among SCO countries, supporting the hosting of international sporting events within the framework of the organization, fostering people-to-people connectivity through sports, and leveraging sports cooperation to advance regional economic and trade integration—the Chongqing Municipal Party Committee and Municipal Government have adopted a holistic, coordinated approach and ensured precise implementation. Under the joint leadership of the Municipal Party Committee’s Publicity Department, the Municipal Commission of Economy and Information Technology, the Municipal Commission of Commerce, the Municipal Commission of Culture and Tourism, the Municipal Foreign Affairs Office, and the Municipal Sports Bureau, the city has positioned the development of high‑end, internationally‑oriented sporting events as a crucial lever for deepening Chongqing’s integration into the SCO cooperation framework and advancing its efforts to achieve high‑level opening-up as an inland hub. The 2026 Chongqing Motorcycle Super Series (referred to as “YuMoChao”) is a landmark initiative that underscores Chongqing’s strategic use of its industrial strengths, proactive alignment with the SCO’s top‑level cooperation agenda, and commitment to cultivating integrated development across the domains of sports, economy and trade, industry, and culture and tourism.
As the centerpiece of this series, the “Shanghai Cooperation Organization National Multifunctional Economic and Trade Platform Off-Road Motorcycle Open,” co‑organized by the Shanghai Cooperation Organization National Multifunctional Economic and Trade Platform and the People’s Government of Jiangjin District, Chongqing, has been officially designated as the sole international‑level event within the 2026 Chongqing Motorcycle Sports Super Series—and the only city‑wide, internationally recognized professional motorcycle competition in Chongqing for 2026. Boasting the highest competitive standards, the strongest international character, and the most significant value for external economic and trade cooperation, this event represents a concrete implementation of the heads‑of‑state consensus on SCO sports cooperation and the multilateral initiative to promote sporting events in Chongqing. It also serves as a pivotal international platform through which Chongqing showcases its dynamism as an inland gateway to openness and its robust manufacturing prowess to the member states of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization and the countries participating in the Belt and Road Initiative.
The 2026 “YuMoChao” series of events will run from September to December, spanning ten key districts and counties—including Liangjiang New Area, Fuling District, Dadukou District, and Jiangjin District. Featuring three signature competition formats—venue races, mass‑start rallies, and obstacle courses—the program covers both traditional fuel‑powered and new‑energy motorcycle categories. A total of 11 tiered events will be held throughout the year, forming a multi‑level, three‑dimensional event matrix: one international‑level race, three national‑level events, and seven municipal‑level competitions. The series remains firmly committed to its development philosophy of “using racing to drive research, production, marketing, and industrial growth,” closely aligning with Chongqing’s goals of building a modern manufacturing cluster system under the “33618” framework and a modern service industry structure under the “9611” initiative. It aims to boost the quality and efficiency of Chongqing’s one‑hour motorcycle industry circle, support the in‑depth implementation of the “Chongqing Motorcycles Go Global” strategy, and help local motorcycle manufacturers expand into international markets.
Compared with national and municipal-level competitions across the city, the SCO‑level International Motocross Open held in Jiangjin boasts a unique multilateral cooperative character, breaking free from the confines of single‑discipline sports competition. Anchored in the Shanghai Cooperation Organization’s mechanisms for multilateral economic, trade, and cultural exchanges, the event invites participants from all SCO member states and countries jointly building the Belt and Road Initiative, bringing together professional riders, SCO sports officials, industry experts, and representatives of overseas motorcycle manufacturers in Jiangjin, Chongqing. Complementing the race are a series of ancillary activities—including cross‑border industrial matchmaking, Sino‑foreign business negotiations, promotion of cultural and tourism resources, and showcases of brand internationalization—thus truly achieving the vision of “sports as a platform, economy and trade as the main act, industrial empowerment, and people-to-people connectivity,” comprehensively fulfilling the SCO’s core mandate to leverage sporting exchanges to advance mutually beneficial regional cooperation.

This collaboration between the Shanghai Cooperation Organization’s Multifunctional Economic and Trade Platform, the Chongqing Municipal Sports Bureau, and the Jiangjin District People’s Government to bring a major international sporting event to Jiangjin represents a pragmatic and innovative effort by all parties to leverage Chongqing as a base and serve the broader western inland region’s opening-up. The platform capitalizes on its unique role as a permanent facilitator of subnational cooperation among SCO member states, forging deep synergies with Jiangjin District’s status as a national hub for the motorcycle industry and its strategic position along the New International Land-Sea Trade Corridor. By integrating international event management, cross-border sports and cultural exchanges, automotive and motorcycle industry collaboration, overseas market expansion, and the integrated development of industry, education, and research, this initiative not only translates into concrete action the SCO Heads of State’s consensus on sports cooperation and the operational directives of the SCO Ministerial Meeting on Sports, but also serves as a pivotal measure for Chongqing to harness its distinctive industrial‑driven events, stimulate sports‑related consumption, advance the integrated upgrading of commerce, culture, tourism, sports, and agriculture, and expand and enhance its international consumer market.
The hosting of this event will further elevate Chongqing’s motorcycle racing to international standards, enhance its professional caliber and brand influence, and comprehensively showcase the robust strength of Chongqing’s motorcycle manufacturing sector, the latest achievements in the sports industry, and the open‑minded, inclusive character of this inland city.
Going forward, the Shanghai Cooperation Organization’s Multifunctional Economic and Trade Platform will remain firmly anchored in the consensus on sports cooperation reached at the SCO Heads of State Council and the spirit of the SCO Sports Ministers’ Meeting. It will continue to leverage the SCO’s multilateral cooperation mechanisms, using premier international motorcycle racing events as a long-term platform for collaboration. The platform will further deepen pragmatic cooperation between Chongqing and SCO member states across multiple domains, including competitive sports, industrial synergy, trade expansion, cultural‑tourism integration, and people-to-people exchanges. At the same time, it will strengthen Chongqing’s signature motorcycle‑racing brand, open up new pathways for the internationalization of Chongqing’s motorcycle industry, and help the city accelerate its development into an inland open‑door hub and an international consumption center. Ultimately, it will strive to establish a cutting‑edge model of high‑level external openness for inland cities within the SCO framework.
