BEIJING, Sept. 21 (Xinhua) — The Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee convened a meeting on Sept. 21 to deliberate on major issues related to steadfastly advancing comprehensive and rigorous Party self-governance. Xi Jinping, General Secretary of the CPC Central Committee, presided over the meeting.

The meeting decided that the Fifth Plenary Session of the 20th Central Committee of the Communist Party of China will be held in Beijing from October 26 to 29.

The Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee heard a report on the results of soliciting opinions, within and outside the Party, on the draft Decision of the CPC Central Committee on Several Major Issues Concerning the Steadfast Advancement of Comprehensive and Strict Party Governance. It decided to revise the draft in light of the views expressed at this meeting and then submit it to the Fifth Plenary Session of the 20th CPC Central Committee for deliberation.

The meeting noted that this round of soliciting opinions upheld democracy and pooled collective wisdom. All regions, departments, and sectors expressed full approval of the draft decision, commending its fact-based summarization of the achievements and experiences of comprehensively strengthening Party self‑governance in the new era, its incisive analysis of the current and future challenges and tasks facing Party building, and its strategic planning for steadfastly advancing comprehensive Party self‑governance. The decision reflects the historic initiative of the Party Central Committee with Comrade Xi Jinping at its core to strengthen both the Party and the country, and it bears significant practical relevance and far‑reaching guiding significance for advancing the new great project of Party building in the new era and for uniting and leading the people of all ethnic groups across the country to promote national rejuvenation through Chinese modernization.

The meeting emphasized that, in steadfastly advancing the Party’s self‑discipline and comprehensive governance, it is imperative to uphold Marxism–Leninism, Mao Zedong Thought, Deng Xiaoping Theory, the important thought of “Three Represents,” and the Scientific Outlook on Development; to fully implement Xi Jinping Thought on Socialism with Chinese Characteristics for a New Era; to study and apply Xi Jinping’s Thought on Party Building in depth; and to focus on fulfilling the Party’s missions and tasks by implementing the overarching requirements for Party building in the new era. Grounded in the Party Constitution, we must uphold the Party’s nature as the vanguard, maintain the Party’s overall leadership and the centralized, unified leadership of the CPC Central Committee, and strive to enhance the Party’s long‑term governance capacity, preserve its advanced character and purity, and strengthen its close ties with the people. We must unswervingly maintain a rigorous tone, improve the system of comprehensive Party self‑discipline, take political development as the guiding principle, and comprehensively advance all aspects of Party building. In doing so, we will fully stimulate the Party’s enthusiasm, initiative, and creativity, continuously achieve self‑purification, self‑improvement, self‑reform, and self‑elevation, and steadily strengthen the Party’s political leadership, ideological guidance, mass organization capabilities, and social appeal. This will ensure that the Party remains a Marxist ruling party that leads the times, enjoys the heartfelt support of the people, stands firm in the face of all kinds of challenges, and brims with vitality, and that it continues to serve as the strong leadership core of the cause of socialism with Chinese characteristics.

The meeting emphasized that the entire Party must, from the strategic perspective of consolidating the Party’s ruling position and realizing the great rejuvenation of the Chinese nation, deeply recognize the importance and urgency of persistently advancing comprehensive and rigorous Party self‑governance. It called for firm confidence and unwavering resolve, and for upholding and effectively applying the valuable experiences gained in comprehensively strengthening Party self‑governance in the new era through higher standards and more concrete measures. Furthermore, it urged addressing and resolving the most salient problems confronting Party building, and consolidating and further developing the favorable political environment fostered by sound Party governance, so as to continuously open up new prospects for governing and strengthening the Party in the new era.
