At around 10:00 a.m. local time in Laos on September 14, the China–Laos “Peace Train–2026” joint humanitarian medical rescue exercise successfully concluded all scheduled training events, bringing to a successful close in Vientiane, Laos.
This joint exercise, themed “International Humanitarian Medical Rescue in the Wake of a Super‑Typhoon Disaster,” emphasizes the seamless integration of command and planning, end-to-end disaster response, and coordinated inter‑domain operations, with a three‑tier command structure and a four‑level rescue system. Participating units from China and Laos, leveraging equipment such as medical trains and unmanned intelligent combat‑medic supplies, conducted a series of realistic scenarios—including on‑site search and rescue, casualty evacuation, public health and disease prevention, and psychological support—thereby comprehensively honing their capabilities in joint command, joint rescue, and joint logistical support.
As the highlight of this joint exercise, for the first time within the “Peace Train” series, unmanned intelligent systems—including drones, robotic dogs, and unmanned ground vehicles—were deployed in a coordinated, system‑wide manner to carry out multi‑dimensional support tasks such as casualty search and rescue, medical evacuation, and emergency‑supply delivery. This marks a critical step forward in the two militaries’ efforts to build intelligent, system‑based emergency medical and logistical response capabilities.
The joint exercise was firmly grounded in real‑world operational requirements, systematically exploring a cross‑border, joint medical rescue framework through mixed‑unit training, full‑process rehearsals, and live‑fire exercises. Compared with previous iterations, this exercise featured more comprehensive coverage of mission elements, a wider array of capabilities and platforms, and a markedly stronger focus on realism. Throughout the entire process, all phases were seamlessly integrated, ensuring smooth and orderly execution. Through coordinated, well‑honed cooperation, participating service members from both sides effectively validated and enhanced their militaries’ joint medical support and emergency response capabilities, thereby accumulating valuable experience for the routine conduct of diverse medical support missions.
It is reported that, following the exercise, the “Peace Train” medical team will also conduct a range of healthcare services—including specialized consultations, surgical demonstrations, health check-ups, and academic lectures—in Vientiane, Oudomxay Province’s Xaythani District, Champasak Province’s Pakse City, and Attapeu Province’s Samakkhi Sai District, among other locations.
