Wang Yi held talks with Honiara’s Minister for Foreign Affairs and External Trade, Honi Pwila.

On July 14, 2026, Wang Yi, Member of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee and Minister of Foreign Affairs, held talks in Beijing with Honiara’s Minister for Foreign Affairs and External Trade, Jeremiah Manele.
Wang Yi extended his congratulations to the newly inaugurated government of the Solomon Islands, noting that since the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and the Solomon Islands in 2019, bilateral ties have enjoyed robust development. Exchanges and cooperation across various fields have yielded tangible results, bringing concrete benefits to the people of the Solomon Islands. Facts have demonstrated that the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and the Solomon Islands serves the interests of both peoples, aligns with the overarching trends of our times, and stands on the right side of history. China stands ready to work together with the new Solomon Islands government to deepen dialogue and communication at all levels, build on the strong momentum of cooperation across sectors, and foster mutual understanding, support, and trust, so as to elevate the China–Solomon Islands comprehensive strategic partnership for the new era to ever higher levels.
Wang Yi stated that China appreciates the Solomon Islands’ new government for reaffirming its steadfast adherence to the one-China principle, which will firmly safeguard the political foundation of bilateral relations and provide the necessary conditions for deepening mutual cooperation. China’s policy toward the Solomon Islands remains consistent and stable; it consistently supports the Solomon Islands in upholding its national sovereignty, independence, and legitimate rights and interests, and in pursuing a development path of its own choosing. China conducts cooperation with the Solomon Islands without attaching political conditions, imposing anything on others, or making empty promises. We stand ready to strengthen the alignment of our respective development strategies, advance high-quality joint efforts under the Belt and Road Initiative, expand practical cooperation in areas such as green energy, broaden people-to-people and cultural exchanges in education, health, youth, and other fields, enhance multilateral coordination, uphold international fairness and justice, and jointly address global challenges including climate change. China’s development of relations with Pacific island countries aims to strengthen South-South cooperation and promote common development; it is devoid of any geopolitical intent, does not seek a so‑called “sphere of influence,” and should not be subject to interference by third parties. The Pacific island countries are all sovereign and independent nations, not anyone’s “backyard,” and they have the right to independently choose their development partners.

Honipwela stated that the Solomon Islands attaches great importance to its relations with China and expresses gratitude for China’s long-standing, constructive assistance in the country’s economic and social development. The Solomon Islands firmly upholds the one‑China principle: Taiwan is an inseparable part of China, and the Government of the People’s Republic of China is the sole legitimate government representing all of China—this was also affirmed by United Nations General Assembly Resolution 2758. China’s remarkable achievements are the result of the Chinese Communist Party leading the Chinese people in their tireless struggle. China’s development benefits the world, particularly developing countries such as the Solomon Islands. China is the Solomon Islands’ largest trading partner, and the two sides have concluded dozens of cooperation memorandums of understanding. The Solomon Islands looks forward to expanding trade and investment with China and deepening practical cooperation in education, infrastructure, health care, green development, and other fields, so as to elevate Solomon Islands–China relations to a higher level. China’s contributions to world peace and development deserve to be remembered, and its experience is well worth studying and drawing upon for the Solomon Islands and other Pacific island nations. The Solomon Islands stands ready to make active efforts to further strengthen relations between the Pacific island countries and China. It supports President Xi Jinping’s vision of building a community with a shared future for mankind and his four major global initiatives, and will continue to enhance coordination and cooperation with China within multilateral institutions such as the United Nations and the World Trade Organization, safeguarding the common interests of developing countries.
