BEIJING, April 25 (Xinhua) — On April 25, Xi Jinping, General Secretary of the CPC Central Committee and President of the People’s Republic of China, exchanged congratulatory messages with Thongloun Sisoulith, General Secretary of the Lao People’s Revolutionary Party Central Committee and President of the Lao People’s Democratic Republic, to mark the 65th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries.

Xi Jinping pointed out that China and Laos are socialist neighbors bound by a shared future, united by common ideals and convictions, similar social systems, and convergent development paths. The “comrade-plus-brother” friendship forged by the older generations of leaders of the two parties and the two countries has grown ever stronger over time. At present, the two sides are accelerating efforts to build a high-standard, high-quality, and high-level China–Laos community with a shared future. Exchanges at all levels have become closer, cooperation across various fields continues to deepen, and the two sides steadfastly support each other on issues concerning their respective core interests and major concerns, thereby injecting valuable stability and certainty into the region and the world.

Xi Jinping emphasized that the CPC and the Chinese government have always viewed China–Laos relations from a strategic and long-term perspective, regarding Laos as a key priority in China’s neighborhood diplomacy. He expressed his willingness to work together with General Secretary and President Thongloun to take the 65th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries and the “China–Laos Friendship Year” as an opportunity to enhance strategic mutual trust, carry forward the traditional friendship, advance practical cooperation across all fields to achieve more tangible results, and deliver greater benefits to the peoples of both countries.

Thongloun stated that over the 65 years since the establishment of diplomatic relations, the friendship and solidarity between the two Parties, the two countries, and the two peoples have continuously reached new heights, with substantial achievements in building the Laos–China community with a shared future. He expressed gratitude for the long-standing, invaluable support and assistance provided by the CPC, the Chinese government, and the Chinese people, and affirmed that the Lao side has always steadfastly upheld the One-China principle and supported China in safeguarding its core interests. Laos stands ready to work with China to effectively implement the new Five-Year Action Plan for the Laos–China Community with a Shared Future, so as to ensure that the traditional friendship and the comprehensive strategic cooperative partnership between the two countries continue to yield new and fruitful results.

On the same day, Chinese Premier Li Qiang exchanged congratulatory messages with Lao Prime Minister Sonexay Siphandone. Premier Li stated that the two sides should take the strategic consensus reached by the top leaders of the two parties and the two countries as their guiding principle, direct all ministries and local authorities to strengthen coordination and cooperation, broaden areas of collaboration, foster new drivers of development, and deliver more practical outcomes in the China–Laos comprehensive strategic partnership.

Song Sai stated that over the past 65 years, the traditional friendship and comprehensive strategic cooperation between Laos and China have continued to deepen. The Lao side stands ready to work with the Chinese side to effectively implement the strategic consensus reached by the top leaders of the two parties and the two countries, to successfully organize all commemorative events marking the 65th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Laos and China as well as the “Year of Laos-China Friendship,” and to deliver more tangible benefits to the peoples of both countries.
