Xinhua News Agency, Beijing, January 27 — On the morning of January 27, Chinese President Xi Jinping met with Finnish Prime Minister Orpo, who was in China for an official visit, at the Great Hall of the People in Beijing.

Xi Jinping pointed out that Finland was one of the first countries to establish diplomatic relations with the People's Republic of China. Over the past 76 years since the establishment of diplomatic ties, despite ever-changing international circumstances, China-Finland relations have consistently developed steadily, guided by the principles of mutual respect, equal treatment, a forward-looking approach, and win-win cooperation. Both the Chinese and Finnish peoples share a spirit of resilience and self-reliance. Both sides should enhance mutual trust, strengthen exchanges, deepen cooperation, and contribute to the development of their respective countries, thereby bringing greater well-being to the peoples of both nations.

Xi Jinping emphasized that China-Finland friendship and mutual trust have deep historical roots. This year marks the beginning of China’s 14th Five-Year Plan. China will continue to promote high-quality development and further expand its high-level opening-up. Both sides should deepen mutually beneficial cooperation and create more collaborative achievements in areas such as energy transition, circular economy, agriculture and forestry industries, and scientific and technological innovation. We welcome Finnish enterprises to “swim freely” in the “vast ocean” of the Chinese market and enhance their global competitiveness. Finland is a powerhouse in ice and snow sports, and China has also become a major player in this field. Both sides should strengthen exchanges and cooperation to carry forward their longstanding friendship in the realm of ice and snow. We also invite more Finnish people to come to China and experience a China that is both ancient and modern.

Xi Jinping pointed out that today’s world is facing multiple risks and challenges, and the international community needs to join hands in addressing them. Major countries, in particular, should take the lead in upholding equality, the rule of law, cooperation, and integrity. China is willing to work together with Finland to firmly safeguard the international system centered on the United Nations and the international order based on international law, jointly tackle global challenges, and promote a multipolar world characterized by equality and order as well as an inclusive and beneficial economic globalization. China and Europe are partners, not rivals; cooperation between the two sides outweighs competition, and consensus prevails over differences. We hope that Finland will play a constructive role in fostering the healthy and stable development of China-Europe relations.

Orpo stated that Finland and China enjoy a deep-rooted, traditional friendship. The relationship between the two countries is built on mutual respect and trust, and has enjoyed long-term, stable development. Last year, both sides jointly celebrated the 75th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations. Finnish enterprises have shown strong interest in cooperating with China. Finland is willing to work with China to implement the important consensus reached by the leaders of the two countries, maintain close high-level exchanges, deepen practical cooperation in areas such as trade, investment, the digital economy, clean energy, and agriculture, and enhance the well-being of the peoples of both countries. Finland firmly adheres to the One-China policy. Finland admires China’s remarkable achievements in development and appreciates China’s important and constructive role in international affairs. Finland is ready to strengthen communication and coordination with China and jointly uphold world peace and stability. It is crucial for EU-China relations to continue developing in a constructive manner. Finland advocates European strategic autonomy and supports free trade, and is willing to play a positive role in helping the EU and China properly resolve trade disputes and promote the healthy development of their relationship.
