Recently, the inaugural meeting of the Think Tank Committee on Hepatobiliary Surgery of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization’s Multifunctional Economic and Trade Platform, along with an international conference on health cooperation and exchange in the fields of hepatobiliary and pancreatic medicine, was held in Beijing.
During the conference, the platform appointed six distinguished experts as senior professional advisors to its think tank: Cui Hongyuan, Deputy Director of the Department of General Surgery at Peking Hospital; Turhongjiang Tursun, Member of the Party Committee and Deputy Director of the Clinical Medicine Department at Xinjiang Medical University; Wang Liang, Deputy Director of the Biliary Surgery Department at Beijing Tsinghua Changgeng Hospital; Wang Haijiu, Chief of the Hepatobiliary and Pancreatic Surgery Department at the Affiliated Hospital of Qinghai University; Gao Junlin, Secretary of the Party Committee at the Red Cross Hospital of Qinghai University; and Cui Yunfu, Chief Physician of Ward No. 1 in the Department of General Surgery at the Second Affiliated Hospital of Harbin Medical University. Hu Kaiqiang, Executive Director of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization’s Multifunctional Economic and Trade Platform and Deputy Director of the Committee on Hong Kong, Macao, Taiwan, Overseas Chinese Affairs, and Foreign Affairs of the Chongqing Municipal Committee of the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference, presented the appointment letters to the experts.
This round of centralized recruitment of expert advisors in hepatobiliary medicine will significantly strengthen the platform’s Think Tank Hepatobiliary Surgery Expert Committee, bolstering its expertise in hepatobiliary surgery, echinococcosis prevention and control, telemedicine, and medical–engineering interdisciplinary research. Moving forward, the Think Tank Hepatobiliary Surgery Expert Committee will collaborate with healthcare institutions, experts, public health agencies, and industry partners from SCO member states and other Global South countries to establish an international network of hepatobiliary surgery experts within the SCO framework, an integrated global cooperation mechanism for echinococcosis prevention and control, a global repository of clinical cases and appropriate technologies for hepatobiliary diseases, a platform for surgical live‑streaming and remote collaborative training, and channels for overseas collaboration on innovative medical devices and digital health solutions. These efforts will help shift international cooperation in the hepatobiliary field from ad hoc exchanges to sustained, project‑based, platform‑driven, and institutionalized operations, thereby continuously delivering significant value in enhancing the health and well‑being of populations across the SCO and the Global South.
