The 29th Beijing–Taipei Science and Technology Forum opened in Beijing, with guests from both sides of the Taiwan Strait discussing technological innovation and industrial cooperation.

BEIJING, Sept. 19 (Xinhua) — By reporter Luo Xin: The 29th Beijing–Taipei Science and Technology Forum, themed “Technology Leads Industrial Integration, Digital Intelligence Empowers a Healthy Future,” opened in Beijing on the 19th, bringing together guests from both sides of the Taiwan Strait to discuss technological innovation and industrial cooperation.

In her address, Su Hui, Vice Chairwoman of the National Committee of the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference and Chairwoman of the Central Committee of the Taiwan Democratic Self-Government League, stated that in recent years, mainland China has vigorously implemented an innovation-driven development strategy, established institutional mechanisms to support comprehensive innovation, and entered a new phase in which it leads in key areas of industrial and technological advancement, yielding a wealth of groundbreaking achievements. This has opened up vast opportunities for strengthening cross‑strait cooperation in the economic, scientific, and technological fields. She expressed the hope that compatriots on both sides of the Taiwan Strait will seize these development opportunities, align themselves with the overarching trend of cooperation, ride the wave of innovation, and reap the fruits of win‑win outcomes, thereby continuously bolstering the Chinese nation’s economy.

In his address, Beijing Mayor Yin Yong stated that the city boasts abundant educational, scientific, and talent resources, along with a wealth of opportunities for translating research into practical applications and a vast market potential—providing an ideal environment for all types of entities to innovate and start businesses. A growing number of Taiwan‑based science and technology enterprises and innovative young Taiwanese teams have taken root in Beijing, actively participating in the city’s technological innovation and industrial upgrading, and becoming key drivers of Beijing’s innovative development. Looking ahead, Beijing will continue to deepen exchanges and cooperation with Taiwan, creating even better conditions for Taiwanese businesses and compatriots to thrive in the capital.

Peng Qing’en, Deputy Director of the Taiwan Affairs Office of the CPC Central Committee and the State Council, stated that, as a major contributor to global economic growth and a key hub for innovation in science and technology, mainland China remains the best choice for Taiwanese compatriots seeking to start businesses and pursue development. He expressed the hope that all Taiwan compatriots will stand in solidarity with us, work together in unity, uphold the one-China principle and the 1992 Consensus, resolutely oppose “Taiwan independence” separatism and external interference, actively participate in cross‑strait exchanges and cooperation, jointly strengthen the Chinese nation’s economy, advance the peaceful development of cross‑strait relations and the reunification of the motherland, and share in the great glory of national rejuvenation.

Li Zhenghong, President of the All-China Federation of Taiwan-Invested Enterprises, stated that Beijing, as an international center for scientific and technological innovation, is vigorously advancing high-quality development. Taiwanese-funded enterprises can fully leverage their strengths in fields such as semiconductors, financial services, and software R&D, closely align with Beijing’s science and technology innovation resources and application scenarios, deepen industry–university–research collaborative innovation, and jointly write a new chapter of deep cross-Strait integration and mutually beneficial prosperity.

Guo Jinlong, Chairman of the Mainland Side of the Cross-Strait Entrepreneurs Summit, stated that the Mainland’s increasingly sophisticated innovation system has created a broad platform for cross‑strait collaborative innovation. He expressed the hope that entrepreneurs on both sides will seize the window of opportunity presented by the global scientific and technological revolution and industrial transformation, leverage technological innovation to drive industrial upgrading, and work together to foster new‑type productive forces and build a shared cross‑strait innovation community.

Liu Chao-hsuan, Chairman of the Taiwan side of the Cross-Strait Entrepreneurs Summit, stated that the Beijing–Taipei Science and Technology Forum has become a vital platform for cross-strait exchanges in scientific and technological innovation and economic and trade cooperation, witnessing numerous collaborative initiatives evolve from conceptual ideas into concrete implementations. With each side bringing distinct strengths, they should join forces to leverage AI technology in sectors such as life and health, thereby not only generating substantial commercial value but also enhancing the well-being of people on both sides of the Strait.

On the same day, the forum also hosted signing ceremonies for cross‑strait economic and technological cooperation projects, as well as for partnerships under the Cross‑Strait Smart Healthcare Industry Cooperation Alliance. According to reports, the 29th Beijing–Taiwan Science and Technology Forum was co‑organized by the State Council Taiwan Affairs Office and the Beijing Municipal Government, with the Beijing Municipal Taiwan Affairs Office and the Management Committee of the Beijing Economic-Technological Development Area serving as co‑hosts. The forum’s program further included the Beijing–Taiwan AI + Green Development Forum, the Cross‑Strait Smart Healthcare Industry Cooperation Forum, and the Cross‑Strait Traditional Chinese Medicine and AI Technology Dialogue, among other events.
