China News Service LANZHOU, Aug. 22 (Liu Xuemei) — On the 22nd, a week-long inspection and exchange program titled “Shared Origins, Qihuang Wisdom: Connecting Longxi and Taiwan” for Taiwanese practitioners of traditional Chinese medicine is underway in Gansu Province.
This event is jointly organized by the All-China Taiwan Compatriots’ Federation and the Gansu Provincial Taiwan Compatriots’ Federation. During the visit, the delegation will follow a route stretching from Lanzhou through Pingliang and Tianshui to Longxi, conducting multi‑dimensional fact‑finding and exchanges. They will pay on-site visits to leading local pharmaceutical enterprises, including standardized cultivation bases for Gansu medicinal herbs, the Lanzhou Heavy Ion Center of the Wuwei Tumor Hospital in Gansu Province, and Gansu Longshen Rongfa Pharmaceutical Co., Ltd., gaining an in-depth understanding of the entire value chain—from cultivation to finished‑product market launch—and identifying potential avenues for cooperation through these field engagements.
On the 21st, the delegation visited Gansu University of Traditional Chinese Medicine for an exchange and tour. Hsu Shih-hsun, Public Relations Director of Taiwan Kaien Biotechnology Co., Ltd., set foot on Gansu soil for the first time. In the past, his impressions of Gansu were largely shaped by poetic imagery—such as the Loess Plateau, “grape wine in a luminous cup,” and “the three refrains of Yangguan”—but now, having experienced it firsthand, he witnessed the vigorous growth of Gansu’s traditional Chinese medicine industry and was deeply moved.

Gansu is a vital cradle of Chinese civilization and traditional Chinese medicine, the ancestral home of Qihuang and the birthplace of Huangfu Mi, the founding father of acupuncture. It has long been renowned as the “Millennial Hometown of Medicinal Herbs” and the “Natural Pharmacy,” with its reserves of Chinese medicinal materials and the number of authentic, regionally distinctive varieties ranking among the highest in the country.
Xu Shixun stated that Taiwan continues to make steady progress in the field of biotechnology and bioengineering, with increasingly close collaboration among universities, hospitals, and industry. Traditional Chinese Medicine enjoys widespread public trust in Taiwan, and the “Western medical examination, TCM conditioning” model is commonly seen. “Acupuncture originated on the mainland, and Gansu, as one of the birthplaces of TCM, has long maintained a leading position in acupuncture techniques. We sincerely hope that cross-strait cooperation in the pharmaceutical and medical‑technology sectors will deepen, making full use of the mainland’s high‑quality medicinal resources while leveraging Taiwan’s market expertise and R&D capabilities, so that both sides can support each other and achieve promising prospects,” he said.
Ren Hui, Director of the Liaison Department of the All-China Federation for Promoting Peaceful National Reunification, stated that traditional Chinese medicine is a shared cultural treasure of compatriots on both sides of the Taiwan Strait and an important spiritual bond linking them. Only through continued exchanges can both sides identify greater opportunities for cooperation and open up broader prospects for collaboration, ultimately benefiting all people on both sides and enhancing their common well-being.
Kang Yonghong, Party Secretary and Chairman of Gansu Longshen Rongfa Pharmaceutical Co., Ltd., stated that Xin Silk Road Company is a wholly owned subsidiary of Longshen Rongfa. Since 2020, Xin Silk Road has partnered with Taiwan’s Xingyuan Trading Company to continuously supply Chinese medicinal materials—including Bupleurum, Astragalus, Codonopsis, Dandelion, and Angelica—to Taiwan for three consecutive years. Looking ahead, the company aims to introduce more high-quality Chinese medicinal herbs from Gansu to the Taiwanese market.

This event leverages Gansu’s rich endowment as the “Millennial Hometown of Traditional Chinese Medicine,” establishing a new, sustained platform for cooperation between the TCM communities on both sides of the Taiwan Strait. It aims to jointly advance the high-quality development of TCM on both sides, bringing together more than 40 experts and scholars from Taiwan’s TCM sector, practitioners in the industry, and representatives from related fields to gather in Gansu. Over the course of seven days, participants will engage in field visits and exchanges focused on the inheritance of TCM culture, the development of authentic medicinal‑herb industries, and the integrated promotion of local health‑and‑wellness initiatives.
