SHANGHAI, July 17 (Xinhua) — On the afternoon of July 17, Chinese President Xi Jinping met at the Shanghai West Suburb Hotel with Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet, who is in China to attend the 2026 World Artificial Intelligence Conference and the High-Level Conference on Global AI Governance, as well as to conduct a working visit.
Xi Jinping pointed out that China and Cambodia have stood together in solidarity and supported one another, with their ironclad friendship enduring the test of time and adversity. History has shown that China–Cambodia friendship is not a fleeting relationship or a matter of momentary convenience; it is a shared consensus that has weathered tumultuous changes and been passed down through generations, and a treasured asset for both sides. Both countries should carry forward the unbreakable bond forged by the older generation of leaders, enhance strategic mutual trust, strengthen unity and cooperation, enrich the substance of the “Diamond Six‑Sided” cooperation framework, and advance the building of a China–Cambodia community with a shared future for the new era to ever higher levels, so as to better benefit the peoples of both nations.
Xi Jinping emphasized that, through its great practice of governing and strengthening the Party, the Communist Party of China has formulated a new‑era thought on Party building, which will continue to rally tremendous strength for advancing Chinese‑style modernization. This year marks the 75th anniversary of the founding of the Cambodian People’s Party, and China stands ready to strengthen exchanges with Cambodia on governance and state‑building, firmly advancing the path of China‑Cambodia friendship and cooperation in the new era. Both sides should leverage the role of the China‑Cambodia Intergovernmental Coordination Committee, accelerate the development of the “Industrial Development Corridor” and the “Fishery‑Rice Corridor,” upgrade traditional sectors such as electricity and agriculture, foster emerging industries like artificial intelligence and the digital economy, and coordinate the implementation of infrastructure projects that serve Cambodia’s national development and people’s livelihoods. The China‑Cambodia “3+3” strategic dialogue mechanism—covering diplomacy, defense, and public security—should be fully utilized to jointly crack down on cross‑border crimes such as counterfeiting, smuggling, online gambling, and cyber fraud, thereby safeguarding shared interests and security. China is willing to work with Cambodia to implement the four major global initiatives and promote the establishment of a more just and equitable global governance system. Consolidating the ceasefire between Cambodia and Thailand and gradually building mutual trust are in the fundamental and long‑term interests of both countries. China supports the two sides in finding a solution through dialogue and negotiation and stands ready to continue playing an active role in this regard.

Hun Manet stated that he congratulates China on the successful hosting of the 2026 World Artificial Intelligence Conference, noting that the important concepts and propositions put forward by President Xi Jinping are of great significance for global AI governance. Cambodia and China enjoy close high-level exchanges and have achieved fruitful cooperation across various fields, and he expressed gratitude for China’s longstanding, selfless support and assistance in Cambodia’s economic and social development. Regardless of how the international situation evolves, Cambodia will never waver in its policy of maintaining close friendship and cooperation with China, and will actively work to build a Cambodia–China community with a shared future. Cambodia firmly upholds the one-China principle, stands ready to join China in carrying forward their traditional friendship, implement the important consensus reached by the leaders of both countries, deepen political mutual trust, expand bilateral trade, and advance cooperation on major projects such as infrastructure. It will also intensify efforts to combat telecom fraud, so as to yield further tangible results in the development of bilateral relations. Cambodia appreciates China’s active efforts to promote peace and dialogue, which have helped facilitate the peaceful resolution of the Cambodia–Thailand border dispute, and remains committed to resolving the situation through dialogue and negotiation while de-escalating tensions.
