SHANGHAI, July 16 (Xinhua) — On the afternoon of July 16, Chinese President Xi Jinping met at the Shanghai West Suburb Hotel with Kazakh President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev, who was in China to attend the 2026 World Artificial Intelligence Conference and the High-Level Conference on Global AI Governance.

Xi Jinping pointed out that the world is undergoing profound and complex changes unseen in a century, and that China–Kazakhstan relations have grown stronger through trials and tribulations. The two countries’ permanent comprehensive strategic partnership has remained at a high level, demonstrating tremendous cooperative potential and vast room for development. China has just celebrated the 105th anniversary of the founding of the Communist Party of China. The reason why the CPC has been able to continuously achieve great successes through its struggles, and why history and the Chinese people have chosen the CPC, lies fundamentally in the Party’s outstanding qualities: its unwavering commitment to pursuing truth, its deep roots among the people, its courage to shoulder historical missions, its alignment with the trends of development, its boldness and skill in engaging in struggle, and its emphasis on strengthening itself. These are the key factors behind the CPC’s enduring success. Kazakhstan is vigorously advancing comprehensive reforms—a strategic plan designed with the country’s future in mind. China and Kazakhstan should strengthen the alignment of their development strategies and policies, continuously elevate the level of practical cooperation, and work together to promote common development, thereby elevating China–Kazakhstan strategic coordination to new heights and achieving new results.

Xi Jinping emphasized that firmly advancing all‑round China–Kazakhstan cooperation serves the fundamental interests of both countries and their peoples. Both sides should promote innovative development in trade, optimize the trade structure, and foster new business models such as cross‑border e‑commerce and services trade; expand cooperation in energy and mineral resources, and accelerate the implementation of key projects; advance connectivity, increase the number of direct flights, and enhance the facilitation of international road transport; and cultivate new drivers of productivity. China stands ready to share technologies in the digital economy, artificial intelligence, and other fields to help Kazakhstan achieve its digital transformation. Furthermore, China will host the “Year of China–Kazakhstan Cultural Exchanges,” strengthen cooperation in education, science and technology, healthcare, public health, sports, and media, and consolidate the foundation for enduring friendship across generations. China is committed to working with Kazakhstan to jointly implement the four major global initiatives, intensify coordination and collaboration within multilateral frameworks such as the United Nations, the Shanghai Cooperation Organization, and the China–Central Asia mechanism, and together safeguard international fairness and justice.

Tokayev stated that he was delighted to visit Shanghai, a city brimming with innovation and vitality, to attend the World Artificial Intelligence Conference. He extended warm congratulations on the 105th anniversary of the founding of the Communist Party of China and commended the remarkable development achievements China has attained under the wise leadership of President Xi Jinping. Kazakhstan regards its relations with China as the top priority of its foreign policy and is committed to continuously strengthening its enduring comprehensive strategic partnership with China. The Kazakh side fully agrees with and will actively implement President Xi Jinping’s important guidelines for developing bilateral ties, looking forward to close high-level exchanges, enhanced practical cooperation in trade, investment, transportation, energy, agriculture, the digital economy, and other fields, as well as greater people-to-people and cultural exchanges, so as to yield more tangible results in the development of bilateral relations. Kazakhstan highly appreciates and supports President Xi Jinping’s four major global initiatives and the vision of a community with a shared future for mankind, and stands ready to maintain high‑level collaboration with China within multilateral platforms such as the United Nations, the Shanghai Cooperation Organization, the China–Central Asia mechanism, and CICA, while actively engaging in global governance cooperation on artificial intelligence, jointly promoting sustainable development and peace and stability worldwide.

Following the meeting, the two heads of state jointly witnessed the signing and announcement of numerous cooperation agreements in such fields as economy and trade, transportation, finance, and media.
