COPENHAGEN, July 2 (Xinhua) — On July 2, local time, Wang Yi, Member of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee and Minister of Foreign Affairs, held talks with Danish Foreign Minister Rasmussen in Copenhagen.

Wang Yi stated that China and Denmark enjoy a long-standing history of exchanges, and their bilateral relations have set numerous “firsts.” Denmark was the first Nordic country to establish a comprehensive strategic partnership with China and the first to forge a cooperation mechanism for green transformation with China. Queen Margrethe II was also the first head of state from a Western country to visit China following the country’s reform and opening-up. All these milestones underscore Denmark’s strategic vision and proactive stance in developing its ties with China. Last year, China and Denmark jointly celebrated the 75th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations, during which President Xi Jinping and King Frederik X exchanged congratulatory messages, expressing high hopes for advancing China–Denmark relations at a new starting point. The Chinese side stands ready to work with the Danish side to implement the important consensus reached by the two heads of state, maintain high-level exchanges, and strengthen dialogue and cooperation across all departments and fields.

Wang Yi stated that bilateral relations are currently enjoying healthy and stable development. China is Denmark’s largest trading partner in Asia, and over the years, economic and trade cooperation between the two countries has yielded substantial results. China stands ready to work with Denmark to further expand trade and investment cooperation, launch consultations on a new version of the Joint Green Cooperation Plan, and, guided by green cooperation, deepen collaboration in areas such as scientific research and innovation, green shipping, and health care. At the same time, China seeks to broaden exchanges in education, culture, tourism, youth, sports, and other fields, thereby enhancing mutual understanding and friendship between the peoples of the two countries and imbuing the China–Denmark Comprehensive Strategic Partnership with fresh contemporary significance. China hopes that Danish enterprises will remain confident and continue to invest in China, while also urging the Danish side to provide an open, fair, and predictable business environment for Chinese companies seeking to invest and operate in Denmark. Both sides should jointly safeguard the political foundation of their bilateral relationship. China commends Denmark for upholding the one-China principle and supports Denmark in safeguarding its national sovereignty and territorial integrity—actions that are consistent with the Charter of the United Nations and the basic norms of international relations.

Wang Yi stated that the current international landscape is fraught with turmoil. Both China and Denmark are members of the United Nations Security Council, share a commitment to multilateralism and the rule of law, and advocate for the UN to play a central role in international affairs. The two sides should strengthen multilateral communication and cooperation, work to build a more just and equitable global governance system, oppose all unilateral and bullying practices, and refuse to allow the international community to revert to the law of the jungle, thereby contributing to the maintenance of world peace and stability and to the promotion of global prosperity and development. China and Europe are partners, not rivals; cooperation should remain the fundamental nature and overarching tone of China–Europe relations. He expressed the hope that the Danish side will play a constructive role in advancing the healthy and stable development of China–Europe relations.

Rasmussen stated that Denmark was among the first Western countries to recognize the People’s Republic of China. As comprehensive strategic partners, Denmark and China share extensive common interests. Bilateral relations are currently enjoying strong momentum, with trade and green development emerging as key areas of cooperation. The Danish side remains firmly committed to the one‑China policy, and the Danish Parliament has adopted resolutions in support of this policy. Denmark looks forward to maintaining exchanges at all levels with China, sustaining open and candid dialogue, and exploring the formulation of a new version of the Green Joint Work Plan to advance cooperation in trade, culture, health, education, and other fields. Danish enterprises are confident in China’s development prospects and are eager to deepen their long-term engagement in the Chinese market. Amid ongoing global uncertainties, Denmark values China’s role as a major country and stands ready to strengthen communication and coordination with China on platforms such as the United Nations, uphold multilateralism, safeguard free trade, and address various global challenges. Denmark also intends to play an active role in promoting EU‑China dialogue and cooperation.

The two sides also exchanged views on international and regional issues of mutual concern. (Reporter Zhang Yuliang)
