Hu Kaiqiang, Secretary-General of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization’s Multifunctional Economic and Trade Platform and Deputy Director of the CPPCC Chongqing Municipal Committee’s Committee on Hong Kong, Macao, Taiwan, Overseas Chinese Affairs, and Foreign Affairs, welcomed Pi Feixia and her delegation. The meeting was attended by Zhang Guangfu, Deputy Secretary-General.
Meanwhile, as the president of the Chongqing Qipao Association, a national model for women’s contributions, a delegate to the 12th National Women’s Congress, and the fifth-generation inheritor of the Qimei Ren brand, Pi Feixia explained that the company is deeply rooted in the “Qimei Ren Qipao Handcrafting Technique,” which was designated a Chongqing‑level intangible cultural heritage in 2019. The brand’s origins trace back to a Qing‑dynasty imperial tailoring lineage; her ancestors, surnamed Wuya, served as court tailors in the Guangchu Si’s clothing workshop. In 1930, she founded the Qimei Ren qipao boutique in Shanghai, later expanding between Shanghai and Chongqing, before being revitalized by its current custodians in 2013. Centered on custom-made qipaos that embody this intangible heritage, the company integrates Ba-Yu regional elements such as Rongchang summer cloth and Jiangjin Yunwu tea, developing over 500 cultural‑creative products—including knot buttons, accessories, and home décor—and establishing a full‑chain value system spanning raw materials, processing, experiential engagement, and sales, with annual revenues exceeding RMB 30 million. The company also operates a qipao art troupe and an intangible‑heritage workshop, engaging in poverty‑alleviation initiatives through cultural heritage and international cultural exchanges. It seeks to strengthen collaboration with platforms, blending Chongqing’s intangible cultural heritage and folk traditions with the aesthetic appeal of qipao, thereby advancing qipao culture from a “traditional craft” to a “lifestyle aesthetic” and a “cultural hallmark of the city.” By bringing the natural beauty and humanistic spirit of the Ba‑Yu region to life through the delicate artistry of needlework, the company aims to help Chinese qipao culture go global, expand into the SCO member states’ qipao market, and establish itself as a benchmark brand in China’s qipao industry—while contributing to telling China’s story and playing an active role in building a closer SCO community of shared values.
Hu Kaiqiang pointed out that the platform remains committed to upholding the “Shanghai Spirit” and earnestly implements the resolutions adopted at previous summits of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) Heads of State Council. Centered on the core mission of “building a new SCO ecosystem characterized by the deep integration of the digital and traditional economies,” the platform leverages industry working committees to bring together market entities of diverse ownership forms, thereby fostering an industrial collaborative innovation ecosystem in SCO member states led by Chinese enterprises serving as “chain‑leading” firms. It also supports local governments in attracting investment, seeks to dismantle barriers to cooperation among enterprises with different ownership structures, and explores the establishment of “SCO standards,” laying the groundwork for a global realignment of productive forces.
Zhang Guangfu chaired the symposium and outlined the platform’s innovative operational model and its achievements in construction and development, highlighting successful cases of international cultural exchange and cooperation spearheaded by the platform’s relevant working committees. Danya from the Platform’s Project Expansion Department attended the event. The two sides engaged in an in-depth dialogue on issues of mutual interest.
