BEIJING, May 25 (Xinhua) — On the afternoon of May 25, Chinese President Xi Jinping held talks at the Great Hall of the People in Beijing with Serbian President Aleksandar Vučić, who is on a state visit to China.

Xi Jinping pointed out that during my state visit to Serbia in 2024, the two sides jointly opened a new chapter in building a China–Serbia community with a shared future for the new era. Over the past two years, the development of this community has yielded positive results, benefiting the peoples of both countries and setting an exemplary model for relations between nations. Both the Chinese and Serbian peoples have experienced hardship and glory, share a spirit of unwavering resilience and indomitable perseverance, firmly pursue independence and self-reliance, and safeguard national dignity. They also possess a profound understanding of the importance of pursuing peaceful development and upholding justice and fairness. The two sides should strengthen exchanges, consolidate mutual trust, deepen cooperation, and provide mutual support, working together to forge a bright path of shared destiny and common prosperity, and elevate the China–Serbia comprehensive strategic partnership to new heights.

Xi Jinping emphasized that the ironclad friendship between China and Serbia stands out as unique, underpinned by profound historical logic and a solid practical foundation. Both sides should continue to firmly support one another. China supports Serbia in pursuing a development path suited to its national conditions and is willing to strengthen exchanges with Serbia on governance and state‑building. As China’s 15th Five-Year Plan comprehensively outlines goals for high-quality development, the two countries should enhance the alignment of their development strategies, effectively implement the Mid‑Term Action Plan for Belt and Road cooperation, and steadily advance collaboration in areas such as transport and energy infrastructure. In the face of the new wave of technological revolution and industrial transformation, both sides should intensify cooperation in emerging fields—including artificial intelligence, the digital economy, green energy, and advanced manufacturing—to open up new growth drivers. Last year, the series of events celebrating the 70th anniversary of China–Serbia friendship received an enthusiastic response. The two sides should further strengthen youth and people-to-people exchanges, make full use of the integrated framework of visa exemption, free trade, and direct flights, and expand cooperation across culture, education, sports, tourism, and local-level ties, thus preserving and carrying forward the traditional friendship between the Chinese and Serbian peoples. Amid today’s complex and volatile international landscape, China and Serbia must continue to strengthen coordination and cooperation in international affairs, uphold true multilateralism, and make unremitting efforts to promote a more equitable and orderly multipolar world, an inclusive and shared economic globalization, and the building of a community with a shared future for mankind.

Vučić expressed his congratulations to China on the successful formulation and implementation of the 14th Five-Year Plan, expressing confidence that, under the leadership of President Xi Jinping, China will achieve even greater developmental successes. Since Serbia and China established a comprehensive strategic partnership, bilateral relations have made significant progress, with cooperation across all fields continuously deepening. The peoples of Serbia and China enjoy an ironclad friendship. The Serbian people will never forget China’s support for Serbia in safeguarding its independence and sovereignty and in independently exploring its own development path, and they are grateful to Chinese enterprises for their participation in Serbia’s national development and for the important contributions they have made. The Serbian side attaches great importance to developing relations with China and firmly and unwaveringly supports China’s core interests. Serbia looks forward to working together with China to deepen high-quality cooperation under the Belt and Road Initiative, advance the construction of major projects, strengthen people-to-people and cultural exchanges, and deliver more tangible outcomes in bilateral relations. As a major country, China has always treated smaller nations with equality and respect, upheld international law, and set an example for the world. The Serbian side supports the major global initiatives put forward by President Xi Jinping and stands ready to continue strengthening multilateral cooperation with China to uphold international peace and justice.

The two sides issued the Joint Statement of the People’s Republic of China and the Republic of Serbia on Continuously Advancing the Building of a China-Serbia Community with a Shared Future for the New Era, as well as the Joint Statement of the People’s Republic of China and the Republic of Serbia on Jointly Promoting the Implementation of the Four Global Initiatives.

Upon Vučić’s arrival, honor guards lined up to pay their respects. The two heads of state ascended the reviewing stand as the military band played the national anthems of China and Serbia, and 21 ceremonial gun salutes were fired over Tiananmen Square. Accompanied by Xi Jinping, Vučić reviewed the Chinese People’s Liberation Army honor guard and observed the parade.

That evening, Xi Jinping and Peng Liyuan hosted a welcome banquet for President Vučić and his wife in the Golden Hall of the Great Hall of the People.
