On March 27, the 10th Cross-Strait (Yanting) Economic and Trade Exchange and Cooperation Symposium was held in Yanting, Sichuan Province. Zou Qing, Director of the Exchange Division of the Taiwan Affairs Office of the People’s Government of Sichuan Province and a Second-Level Inspector; Zhang Shuhua, a Second-Level Inspector of the Sichuan Provincial Bureau of Economic Cooperation; Hu Jinyao, Vice Mayor of the Mianyang Municipal People’s Government; and Zhou Fulan, Secretary of the Yanting County Party Committee, attended the meeting and delivered speeches. Lu Hao, Deputy Secretary of the Yanting County Party Committee and County Mayor, presided over the meeting. Pu Langtao, Chairman of the Standing Committee of the Yanting County People’s Congress, along with other leaders, also attended. More than 130 representatives from the cross-strait economic and trade community gathered in Yanting—the ancestral home of Leizu—to jointly promote cooperation and map out a blueprint for development.
At the invitation of the People’s Government of Yanting County, Hu Kaiqiang, Secretary-General of the Multifunctional Economic and Trade Platform of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization Member States and Deputy Director of the Committee on Hong Kong, Macao, Taiwan Affairs, Overseas Chinese Affairs, and Foreign Affairs of the Chongqing Municipal Committee of the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference, delivered a video address to the conference.
Hu Kaiqiang stated that cross-strait economic integration is currently deepening and becoming more substantive. Taiwanese enterprises enjoy distinct advantages in technological R&D, precision manufacturing, and brand management, while the mainland boasts a vast market, a complete industrial chain, and a confluence of opening-up opportunities, resulting in strong complementarity and ample room for cooperation between the two sides. He pointed out that the development of the Chengdu–Chongqing Twin-City Economic Circle presents new strategic opportunities for cross-strait businesses to expand their collaboration. As an important regional hub, Yanting is adopting a more open stance to connect with international markets. The SCO Multifunctional Economic and Trade Platform stands ready to take this symposium as an opportunity to build a bridge between cross-strait enterprises and the SCO market, promote the coordinated overseas expansion of industries where each side has comparative advantages, facilitate the entry of high-quality products, technologies, and services into SCO member states, and enable all parties to share the benefits of regional cooperation. In his address, Hu Kaiqiang called on the business communities on both sides of the Strait to uphold the principle of mutual benefit and win-win outcomes, deepen mutual trust through economic and trade cooperation, enhance well-being through integrated development, and jointly safeguard the stability and smooth functioning of industrial and supply chains. He urged focused efforts on key areas such as green development, digital transformation, and consumer-oriented livelihoods, with a view to strengthening project alignment, technological collaboration, and talent exchanges. Furthermore, he emphasized leveraging the SCO’s multilateral cooperation mechanisms to expand international market access, enhance the global competitiveness of cross-strait industries, and work together to achieve high-quality development.
During this event, Yanting County successfully established partnerships with seven enterprises, covering such fields as new chemical materials, chemical pharmaceuticals and active pharmaceutical ingredients, and new energy.
Prior to the meeting, attendees visited the Tongyi New Silk Full-Industry-Chain Project and the Julong Chemical Industrial Park. They highly commended Yanting’s favorable business environment and pledged to actively promote investment opportunities in Mianyang and Yanting, thereby continuing to contribute to the deepening of cross-strait economic and trade exchanges and cooperation.
