On February 9, the “Sports Dream: A Thematic Exhibition on the History and Culture of Sports in Sichuan and Chongqing” was grandly inaugurated at the Chongqing Sports Museum. Four medals from the “SCO Aikewin Cycling Open,” submitted by the Aikewin International Cycling Club—a multi-functional economic and trade platform of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization countries—were displayed in the exhibition’s section titled “Bashan and Shu Waters: A Glorious Chronicle Shared.” The exhibition will run until the end of February, and admission is free for visitors.

These four symbols of honor, born from the intense battlegrounds of competition, bear witness to the athletes’ relentless efforts and the glory of their victories. Their inclusion is not only a testament to the event’s high standards and broad influence but also reflects the recognition and preservation by authoritative institutions of the sportsmanship, regional culture, and contemporary mission they embody—making them vivid annotations that chronicle the present while bridging the past and the future.

These four exquisitely designed medals were created for two consecutive SCO Aikeng Cycling Open events: In 2024, as one of the largest cycling races in western China, the event drew 800 athletes who sped along a picturesque course; in 2025, the event’s participation expanded further to 1,500 runners, and the registration portal was fully booked within just four hours of opening, demonstrating the event’s remarkable appeal. Both events offered meticulously attentive service—from specially prepared finish-line slippers to post-race cooling equipment—all reflecting deep humanistic care.

The medal designs further highlight local characteristics. The 2024 medal features a hollowed-out design, with its rotating inner circle symbolizing the relentless forward momentum. The combination of gold and silver colors echoes Guangyang Island’s lush greenery and pristine waters, as well as its abundant natural resources—perfectly encapsulating both the scenic beauty of the racecourse and the spirit of sportsmanship. The 2025 medal draws inspiration from cyclists, the rippling patterns of the Yangtze River, and the delicate cloud motifs in a clear blue sky, vividly portraying the athletes speeding ahead, accompanied by a crisp breeze, swirling river waters, and drifting white clouds. This design not only captures the natural charm of Guangyang Island but also underscores the close bond between cycling and nature. Through ingenious design, it has become a tangible “cultural calling card” for Chongqing.

As a key initiative of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization’s International Multifunctional Economic and Trade Platform (hereinafter referred to as the SCO Economic and Trade Platform) for promoting international sports and cultural exchanges, the SCO Aikeying Cycling Club, under Xitu Culture & Tourism, actively embodies the “Shanghai Spirit” of “mutual trust, mutual benefit, equality, and consultation,” using sporting events as an important link to enhance international exchanges between Chongqing and the member countries of the SCO.

By hosting a series of domestic and international cycling open competitions and undertaking the “Global Italian Sports Day” cycling event—among other internationally renowned events—the club has not only sparked a nationwide enthusiasm for cycling among the general public but has also drawn global attention through its high-level, internationally-oriented competitions. This has fully showcased Chongqing’s international image as a green, eco-friendly, open, inclusive, and vibrant international hub in western China. The deep integration of “sports plus” and “trade and economic cooperation plus” has effectively attracted more domestic and international industrial, trade, and cultural resources to Chongqing, injecting new momentum and vitality into the city’s efforts to become a leading inland open platform.

This inclusion in the exhibition marks a milestone—and also serves as a new starting point. It profoundly reveals that sports events like the SCO Aikeying Cycling Open, which bring together thousands of enthusiasts, are not only an important bridge connecting natural ecosystems with urban vitality, but also a solid force driving regional cultural identity and collaborative development.

According to the introduction, in the future, the SCO Aikewin International Cycling Club will take this as an opportunity to continuously develop brand events that are richer in meaning and greater in influence.
