Hu Kaiqiang, Secretary-General of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization’s Multifunctional Economic and Trade Platform and Deputy Director of the Committee on Hong Kong, Macao, Taiwan, Overseas Chinese, and Foreign Affairs of the Chongqing Municipal Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference, welcomed Le Tian (formerly known as Yue Liming) and his delegation.

As a renowned calligrapher of our time, Letian expressed his appreciation for the platform’s active role in promoting economic and trade cooperation as well as cultural and people-to-people exchanges among the SCO member states. He stated that culture and art are vital vehicles for fostering mutual understanding and friendly interactions between peoples, and he is eager to leverage his personal strengths to carry forward and promote China’s outstanding traditional culture. Using calligraphy as a medium, he is committed to telling China’s stories effectively and making his modest contribution to further enhancing cultural exchanges and mutual learning between China and other countries, thus helping to build a shared SCO community of cultures.

Hu Kaiqiang highly praised Mr. Lotte’s distinguished artistic career and achievements in the field of calligraphy. He stated that, guided by the “Shanghai Spirit,” cooperation among SCO member states has achieved leaps and bounds of development across various fields, and the SCO is actively promoting the building of a community with a shared future for the Shanghai Cooperation Organization. As a non-profit international economic and trade organization under the SCO framework, the SCO Multi-functional Economic and Trade Platform adheres to the spirit of Shanghai and earnestly implements the resolutions adopted at previous SCO Heads of State Council meetings. Focusing on the core task of “building a new SCO ecosystem that deeply integrates the digital economy with the traditional economy,” the platform leverages industry working committees to bring together market entities of diverse ownership structures, thereby fostering a collaborative innovation ecosystem for SCO countries led by Chinese enterprises serving as “chain leaders.” This initiative supports local governments in attracting investment and seeks to break down barriers to cooperation among enterprises of different ownership types, exploring the establishment of “SCO standards” and laying the foundation for a global realignment of productive forces. He emphasized that people-to-people connectivity is the cornerstone of smooth trade. The platform attaches great importance to the bridging role of culture and the arts in international exchanges, and through hosting a wide range of enriching cultural and artistic activities and events, it pragmatically promotes cultural and artistic exchanges and integration among SCO member states, continuously contributing to the building of a SCO community of shared humanities.

Given Lotte’s outstanding achievements in calligraphy and the art of painting and calligraphy, as well as its active contributions to international cultural exchange, the platform has appointed Lotte as the Cultural and Artistic Communication Ambassador for the Shanghai Cooperation Organization’s Multifunctional Economic and Trade Platform, and held a ceremony to present the appointment letter.

Le Tian, male, originally named Yue Liming, is a renowned contemporary calligrapher born in February 1951 in Yuncheng, Shanxi Province. He currently serves as the Deputy Secretary-General of the World Federation of Chinese Calligraphers, Honorary Dean of the Beijing Yihai Academy of Calligraphy and Painting, and Executive Vice President of the China Masters’ Calligraphy Research Institute, as well as Director of its Shanxi Branch. From an early age, Le Tian has been passionately devoted to calligraphy. Starting at the age of ten, he began studying the regular script styles of Liu Gongquan and Ouyang Xun, laying a solid foundation in traditional techniques. For over forty years, he has tirelessly practiced calligraphy, mastering the four major script styles—running script, cursive script, clerical script, and seal script—and advocating the principle of “drawing essence from tradition while infusing it with one’s own thoughts,” thus developing a distinctive style that is both dignified and elegant, yet bold and free-spirited. Le Tian emphasizes that calligraphy should “follow the rules without being bound by them,” placing great importance on expressing personal feelings. His works combine the rigor of traditional conventions with a sense of openness and vivacity. Among his representative works is a cursive script rendition of selected passages from "Guwen Guanzhi," which embodies his pursuit of both technical mastery and spiritual depth. His works have been repeatedly selected for and awarded in major domestic exhibitions and are now housed in institutions such as the Museum of the Chinese People's Revolutionary Military History and the Palace of Nationalities. In 2004, his monumental calligraphy piece "Qinyuan Chun—Snow" (12 meters x 2.2 meters) was acquired by the Great Hall of the People. During the 110th anniversary of Comrade Mao Zedong’s birth, his work "The Long March Poem" was displayed at the Century Altar and subsequently collected by the Chinese Association for the Study of Mao Zedong’s Poetry. On the occasion of the 100th anniversary of Comrade Deng Xiaoping’s birth, Le Tian created a 100-meter-long scroll titled "Deng Xiaoping’s Southern Tour Speech," comprising 7,200 characters, which received extensive coverage from CCTV, Xinhuanet, People’s Daily Online, and other leading Beijing media outlets. Throughout his career, Le Tian has been deeply committed to promoting calligraphy art and fostering cultural exchanges. Holding key positions in professional organizations, he has made significant contributions to the development of calligraphy and painting arts.
