Xinhua News Agency, Beijing, August 26 (Reporter Feng Xinran) On the morning of August 26, President Xi Jinping met with Vyacheslav Volodin, Chairman of the State Duma of Russia, at the Great Hall of the People in Beijing.
Xi Jinping pointed out that China-Russia relations are the most stable, mature, and strategically rich major power relations in today's turbulent and changing world. Persistently promoting the high-level development of China-Russia relations aligns with the fundamental interests of the peoples of both countries and is also a source of stability for world peace. In May this year, I conducted a state visit to Russia and attended the celebration of the 80th anniversary of the victory in the Great Patriotic War of the Soviet Union. Next week, China will hold a grand event commemorating the 80th anniversary of the victory in the Chinese People's War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression and the World Anti-Fascist War. China and the Soviet Union, as the main battlefields in Asia and Europe during World War II respectively, made great national sacrifices to resist Japanese militarism and German fascist aggression and made significant contributions to the victory of World War II. Both sides should continue the traditional friendship, deepen strategic mutual trust, strengthen exchanges and cooperation in various fields, jointly safeguard the security and development interests of the two countries, unite the global South countries, uphold true multilateralism, and promote the international order toward a more just and reasonable direction.
Xi Jinping emphasized that legislative cooperation is an indispensable part of the comprehensive strategic partnership of coordination between China and Russia in the new era. He hopes that both sides will actively carry out exchanges of governance and legislative experiences to provide a more solid legislative guarantee for China-Russia strategic coordination and cooperation in various fields under the new circumstances.
Volodin conveyed President Putin's warm greetings and best wishes to President Xi Jinping. Volodin said that under the strategic guidance of the two heads of state, Russia-China relations have developed deeply and effectively. The Russian State Duma is committed to implementing the important consensus of the two heads of state, strengthening exchanges and cooperation between the Russian and Chinese legislative bodies, and making every effort to promote more achievements in bilateral relations. Eighty years ago, the peoples of the Soviet Union and China made significant contributions to defeating fascism. The Russian side is willing to jointly celebrate this hard-won victory with China, commemorate the martyrs, and work together to create a better future.
Wang Yi and Peng Qinghua attended the meeting.
