Author:
Reporters learned from China National Nuclear Corporation that today (August 10), the pouring of nuclear island concrete for the Unit 1 reactor of the Jinqimen Nuclear Power Plant in Ningbo, Zhejiang Province, began, marking the full commencement of nuclear island construction and adding a new member to the "Hualong One" nuclear power unit.
The Zhejiang Jinqimen Nuclear Power Plant Unit 1 reactor is designed for a 60-year operational lifespan and plans to construct 6 million-kilowatt-class nuclear power units. Upon completion, the plant is expected to generate 55 billion kilowatt-hours of electricity annually, equivalent to half of Ningbo's total electricity consumption in 2024, and reduce carbon dioxide emissions by approximately 45 million tons.
As of now, there are 41 approved "Hualong One" units under construction and in operation globally. It is the third-generation nuclear power technology with the largest number of approved units under construction and in operation worldwide and is currently the main reactor type for nuclear power construction in China.
