Xinhua News Agency, Beijing, August 6 (Reporter Guo Chunju) On August 6, Wang Yi, member of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee and director of the Office of the Central Commission for Foreign Affairs, held a phone call with Celso Amorim, Special Advisor to the President of Brazil, at the latter's request.
Wang Yi said that under the strategic guidance of President Xi Jinping and President Lula, China and Brazil have joined hands to promote the building of a more just world and a more sustainable planet, reflecting the common ideals and responsibilities of China and Brazil as major developing countries in promoting world multipolarity, upholding international rules and order, and safeguarding international fairness and justice.
Wang Yi stated that China firmly supports Brazil in safeguarding its national sovereignty and national dignity, opposes external unreasonable interference in Brazil's internal affairs; firmly supports Brazil in safeguarding its own development rights and interests, and resisting the bullying behavior of abusing tariffs; firmly supports Brazil in consolidating the solidarity and cooperation of the Global South through the BRICS mechanism, and promoting the joint self-reliance of developing countries. China is willing to work with Brazil to jointly implement the important consensus reached by the two heads of state, deepen China-Brazil cooperation, enrich the strategic connotation of the China-Brazil community with a shared future, and effectively offset various uncertainties from the outside world with the stability and complementarity of bilateral cooperation.
Amorim stated that the friendly exchanges between President Lula and President Xi Jinping highlight the importance of the China-Brazil community with a shared future. Brazil is willing to work with China to implement the consensus reached by the two heads of state and deepen cooperation in various fields such as trade and finance. The United States has imposed high tariffs on Brazil, undermining normal trade relations and interfering in Brazil's internal affairs. Brazil firmly opposes this, and thanks China for its firm support.
The two sides also exchanged views on the Ukraine crisis. Wang Yi said that the "six-point consensus" jointly issued by China and Brazil has played a positive role in cooling down the crisis, and the "Friends of Peace" group jointly advocated by the two countries has worked with countries in the Global South to issue objective and rational voices, making positive efforts to promote dialogue and negotiations.
Amorim stated that Brazil and China can further promote the greater role of the "Friends of Peace" group, promote ceasefire and cessation of hostilities, and at the same time increase mediation efforts to promote dialogue and negotiations between the two sides.
