WASHINGTON, Sept. 25 (Xinhua) — From September 23 to 25, local time, Chinese President Xi Jinping paid a state visit to the United States. During the visit, the two heads of state engaged in in-depth exchanges on building a constructive and stable China-U.S. strategic relationship and on major international and regional issues, reaching a consensus on eight key outcomes, including:
I. The two sides agree to build a “constructive strategic stability relationship between China and the United States, based on respect, fairness, and equality.”
II. The two sides agree to mutually support each other in successfully hosting the APEC Economic Leaders’ Meeting and the G20 Summit. The heads of state of both countries intend to attend the meetings hosted by the other.
III. The two heads of state agreed that Iran should honor its commitment not to develop nuclear weapons, and that no country or entity shall impose tolls on international waterways.
IV. The two heads of state recalled that China and the United States were allies during World War II, fighting side by side to secure victory.
V. The two heads of state recognized the positive role of the China–U.S. economic and trade consultation mechanism and the outcomes of consultations between the two sides’ economic and trade teams, including the establishment and advancement of mechanisms such as the Trade Council, the agreement on reciprocal tariff reductions totaling US$30 billion, and the extension of the outcomes of the Kuala Lumpur economic and trade consultations, and instructed that these be implemented.
VI. China–U.S. cooperation between drug enforcement agencies has yielded tangible results. Recently, the two sides have worked closely together to jointly dismantle numerous cases involving new psychoactive substances and precursor chemicals, resulting in the apprehension of dozens of suspects in both countries.
VII. The two sides agree to establish a China–U.S. Artificial Intelligence Dialogue to exchange views on the risks and benefits associated with artificial intelligence. The next round of the dialogue will be held in November this year. The two sides also agree to set up a communication channel for addressing AI-related incidents.
VIII. The U.S. side welcomes the arrival in the United States of a pair of giant pandas leased by the Chinese side to the Atlanta Zoo.
In addition, the militaries of China and the United States have agreed to sign, as soon as possible, a memorandum of understanding on enhancing crisis communication and prevention, and to continue cooperating in the search for the remains of U.S. service members missing in China.
