Hu Kaiqiang, Secretary-General of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization’s Multifunctional Economic and Trade Platform and Deputy Director of the CPPCC Chongqing Municipal Committee’s Committee on Hong Kong, Macao, Taiwan, Overseas Chinese Affairs, and Foreign Affairs, welcomed Academician Dong Jiahong and his delegation. The meeting was attended by Zhang Guangfu, Deputy Secretary-General.
Academician Dong Jiahong listened carefully to the platform’s presentation and expressed his appreciation for its positive contributions to advancing local economic, trade, and cultural exchanges among SCO member states. He noted that the prevention and treatment of hepatobiliary diseases and the development of precision medicine are shared public health priorities across the SCO countries, underscoring the vast potential for cooperation in the health sector. At present, the region continues to face pressing challenges, including uneven distribution of medical resources, insufficient technological exchange, and inconsistent clinical standards. He proposed leveraging the platform’s international strengths to establish a Hepatobiliary Experts Committee, bringing together experts from all member states to promote academic dialogue, technical collaboration, and talent development. He is confident that the establishment of this committee will help address regional gaps in diagnosis and treatment, optimize the allocation of medical resources, elevate the level of hepatobiliary disease prevention and care among member states, deepen practical cooperation in the health field, and contribute to building an SCO health community.
Hu Kaiqiang pointed out that the platform remains committed to upholding the “Shanghai Spirit” and is actively implementing the resolutions adopted at previous summits of the heads of state of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization. Centered on the core mission of “building a new SCO ecosystem characterized by the deep integration of the digital and traditional economies,” the platform leverages industry working committees to bring together market entities of diverse ownership forms, thereby fostering an industrial collaborative innovation ecosystem in SCO member states led by Chinese enterprises serving as “chain‑leading” firms. This effort supports local governments in attracting investment and seeks to dismantle barriers to cooperation among enterprises with different ownership structures, while exploring the establishment of “SCO standards” to lay the groundwork for a global realignment of productive forces. He emphasized that strengthening cooperation among SCO member states in the fields of healthcare and public health represents an important consensus reached by the heads of state. To this end, the platform has initiated and established multiple working committees in the health sector and has been advancing related cooperation in a pragmatic manner. Moving forward, the platform will support Academician Dong Jiahong in leading the formation of a hepatobiliary expert committee, jointly elevating SCO international cooperation in health to a higher level and delivering benefits to more regions and peoples.
Zhang Guangfu chaired the symposium, presenting the platform’s innovative operational model and its achievements in construction and development. He highlighted successful cases of international cooperation involving the platform’s working committees, and both sides engaged in an in-depth exchange on issues of mutual interest.
